Day has been a fairly disappointing Monday, fighting through the stress though with my favourite shows and a cup of my favourite green tea
1. Under-Eye Bags:
I am the world’s worst for letting things as little as tomorrow’s tasks, bills, stress of work etc. weigh on my mind, and this definitely has a bang on effect into my sleeping pattern. Having a poor nights sleep can cause fluid to pool below your lower eyelid area, and what you end up with is a puffy mess in the a.m. EEK!
Things that work for me are cold teabags (sounds bazaar, but totally works!), or a cafiene product that I pat in around the eye area.
2. Dry, Flaky Skin:
I get this in particular on my scalp. It causes me real discomfort at times. When I stress, I scratch, I am not the best at munching well, nor drinking the right thing. This gets coupled with wonderful headaches (NOT). Stress usually takes us away from our normal routines. Not drinking enough water can result in our scalps /skin turning into crepe paper. Stay away from coffee, fizzy drink etc. these won’t help at all!
Stress causes skin issues to flare up regardless of what you’re prone to” When it comes to acne, stress releases cortisol, which can throw off the other hormones in your body and cause breakouts on your face or body. Stress can also disrupt the balance between the good and bad bacteria in your gut. That can then show up on your skin in the form of acne. Cheers Acne!! I get this in particular around my chin, bottom of my mouth type area… BRUTAL!!! I sip on lemon water where I can, and add water occasionally with my green tea. I do my best to keep to my skin routine, eat as healthy as I can when freaking out to fight it from the inside, out.
4. Rashes and Hives:
Both are caused by an imbalance in your gut. They crop up when stress takes over and too much bad bacteria outweighs the good.
5. Flushed Face:
When you’re stressed, you breathe in short, shallow breaths and can even find yourself holding your breath for periods of time, which can lead to flushing and redness.
Hands up, I maaaay cover this up with foundation when I leave for the office! Although, this totally helps my self confidence, I do feel it just covers the problem up rather than fix it. I also find if I wear too much foundation, my skin DOES NOT thank me for it!
6. Fine Lines:
TURN THAT FROWN UPSIDE DOWN! Constantly making certain facial expressions, like furrowing your brows when you’re stressed or pursing your lips, can lead to deeper wrinkles in these areas over time.
Although we can’t completely prevent these, give me wrinkles from laughing too much, loving too hard and loving life too much over stress caused ones any day!
7. Thinning Hair:
Stress causes your hair to go from the growing phase to the resting phase to the falling-out phase quicker, accelerating its natural cycle.
8. Nail Health:
Although this is not a direct issue from stress, from my own personal experience, when I am stressed I pick at my nails. This makes them brittle and weak and pretty horrible looking! Nail biters this includes you really! We must unite, and stay strong to keep our nails looking lovely and shiny!!
